Major California hospital group
Equipment Description:
A point-of-entry filtration system designed to remove virtually all suspended solids, including viruses and bacteria, helping to protect the plumbing system from growing and spreading bacteria like Legionella Pneumophila and other harmful pathogens. The system includes self-cleaning pre-filters for the removal of large particulates, duplex Phoenix GT-2 high-capacity ultrafilters with OSHPD-approved seismic anchoring and flexible connectors, with a building automation system communication gateway.
Problem:
Hospital facilities in the state of California are now required to have at least three days’ worth of domestic water on hand in the event of an emergency. In most cases, this leads to tens of thousands of gallons of water needing to be stored on-site. With large volumes of stored water and minimal turnover, this can lead to microbiological growth buildup in the storage tank. This, coupled with minimal turnover of the stored water, can lead to stagnation, further compounding the issue and leading to potentially unsafe water being distributed through the facility.
Solution:
Installation of a High-Capacity Ultrafiltration (HUF) system before the emergency water storage tank. Before the water enters the storage tank, the HUF system will remove virtually all suspended solids, including viruses and bacteria, while leaving the dissolved solids and chlorine (or chloramine) residual intact. Along with a proper water management plan, this makes for a much safer water supply for distribution throughout the facility.
